The three AI generated blogs on this site have lots of useful and helpful information. They came with site however they define English language haiku and senryu with the 5-7-5 format only. Nothing wrong with 5-7-5, but I favor the challenge of creating poems in the shorter 3-5-3 format.

While reading about haiku, one suggestion that stuck with me was to follow the rules and be prepared to break them in your haiku writing. This suggestion frees you up to not be locked into the traditional format when it just doesn't work for what you want to say.

I consider myself a beginner in writing haiku and senryu. I starting writing it after retirement at age 70 and still have a lot to learn. It is both amazing and humbling to read the work of the masters like Basho and other experienced writers.

I think the most important lesson in writing haiku is to appreciate the process. For me the process is tied to the satisfying slowing down and observing and musing about the world around me. That remains the most important thing that I experience no matter how well I craft the poem.
